The programme:
THE INVESTMENT FUND FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF PUBLIC HERITAGE: DESIGN CONTESTS FOR THE SANGALLO COMPLEX IN FLORENCE AND BOLOGNA

European cities are transformed mainly by the replacement and requalification of parts already built; after the reuse of industrial settlements, more recently it is the military equipment disused that represent important opportunities for urban requalification. In this context, CDP Investimenti Sgr, which with the Fondo Investimenti per la Valorizzazione del patrimonio pubblico, has acquired a significant number of barracks, in order to manage their transformation and disposal on the private real estate market, plays a particularly important role. The report reports on the competitions carried out by the company to identify the plans to upgrade the former Sangallo hospital in Florence and the former Sani barracks in Bologna and promotes a reflection on their results, in terms of guidelines for the reuse of disused barracks. In particular, with reference to the choices on the functional mix, the decisions concerning the reorganization of the surrounding neighbourhoods, the procedures for the recovery of existing buildings and the subjects called upon to manage their implementation over time.
