The new parish complex “San Massimiliano Maria Kolbe” in Monsummano Terme is part of a broader urban regeneration plan for the Cintolese area, based on the creation of a continuous and interconnected system of public squares.

These public spaces become the beating heart of the new urban center – designed not only as gathering places, but as urban elements that combine tradition and contemporaneity, lightness and transparency.

The religious and civic square is conceived as a partially enclosed space, defined by mixed-use volumes that foster social interaction and circulation. It moves beyond the static solidity of traditional forms, embracing a more fluid and open spatiality. The oratory, placed at the far end of Piazza Martiri del Padule, becomes a social and symbolic gathering point, integrating sacred and civic dimensions.

The church, with an elliptical plan inscribed within a rectangle, represents a formal and spatial innovation that reflects the relationship between sacredness and light—both fundamental elements of the design. The articulation of the interior spaces and their connection to the outdoors create a welcoming and dynamic environment, capable of responding to the needs of the community while enhancing the urban context.

The parish complex thus emerges as a model of contemporary architecture that engages in dialogue with Italian tradition and the local landscape, promoting a new vision of a human-centered city – where public space becomes a place of participation, identity, and encounter.
