The project for the new 118 Emergency Operations Center at the Piero Palagi Hospital in Florence, located at Viale Michelangelo 41, was inaugurated in April 2014 and represents a technological and functional intervention for coordinating medical emergencies.

It includes 40 workstations (20 of which can operate simultaneously), a telephone exchange, a data processing center, an anti-blackout power continuity system, training areas, a “Crisis Unit” for major emergencies, and a “Toscana Soccorso” station for managing regional air ambulance services.

The facility is earthquake-resistant (with seismic isolators) and highly energy-efficient, designed to remain operational during natural disasters thanks to backup generators and technological redundancy. The project combines technological innovation and operational resilience, establishing itself as a model for emergency operations centers in Italy.
