The project for the new Headquarters of the Province of Arezzo stems from the desire to combine institutional authority with openness to citizens.

The building draws inspiration from the model of the Italian Renaissance palazzo – a symbol of civic administration and local identity – yet reinterprets it in a contemporary key, introducing dynamism and hospitality to reflect the vibrancy and plurality of today’s democratic society.

The traditional quadrangle is broken and wrapped into a spiral, generating a sequence of public spaces organized along an internal path—lively and participatory. The central courtyard becomes a stepped piazza, designed as a place of gathering, information, and social interaction, inspired by the historic squares of Arezzo and their relationship between public space, built form, and topography.

The volumes of the building take on an asymmetrical shape: on one side, they fragment like the remains of an ancient structure; on the other, they rise with contemporary cuts that bring light and identity to the interior spaces. This architectural choice echoes the diversity and quiet order of the historic city, reflecting Arezzo’s measured and composite character.

The project thus proposes an architectural organism that goes beyond monumental rigidity, fostering participation and transparency. The new headquarters becomes a true civic heart—capable of welcoming citizens and representing, through innovative forms, the continuity between tradition and the future of the Arezzo community.
