Prof. Rossi Prodi took part to an Italian – Chinese research on the issues of Hutong renovation, the typical court houses of ancient Chinese towns, mostly demolished in Chinese contemporary urban development. A workshop was held in cooperation between the University of Florence and the BUCEA (Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture) Faculty of Architecture in Beijing about the refurbishment of this traditional chinese court house, in central Beijing, close to the Forbidden City. The work was led by Prof. Bing Wang from Bucea and professors Fabrizio Rossi Prodi and Maurizio De Vita from Florence. The workshop was partaken by a group of 20 Italian and Chinese students. The study was about different case-studies, developing a comparison of historical, constructive and functional characters, aimed at the definition of their prominent values and conservative elements and processes. It also included the experimental design concept of conservation and renovation. It was interesting to test the different approach to conservation and design due to different cultural tradition in historical view and architectural culture.
