The project for the Misericordia Hospital for Levels of Care in Grosseto represents an innovative intervention within the existing hospital complex. It is organized into two functional phases, respectively dedicated to high and medium levels of care.

The main building is designed as a long four-story bar flanked by two lower wings, conceived to ensure efficiency, flexibility, and seamless integration with the pre-existing structures. The internal layout follows a plate/tower model: the ground floor houses general services, the intermediate plate floor is dedicated to surgery and intensive care, while the two upper floors accommodate inpatient wards.

Special attention was given to the design of the intensive care areas, which have been reorganized using a panoptic layout to allow efficient monitoring and greater functional adaptability. Visitor and family access areas are concentrated and clearly separated from staff circulation paths, ensuring both safety and privacy.

The project also enhances natural lighting and exterior views—crucial elements for the well-being of patients and healthcare professionals. Waiting areas and buffer zones are designed to encourage interaction and comfort, supporting physical and psychological recovery. The structure is conceived to be expandable over time, allowing it to adapt to future healthcare and technological needs.

Through this intervention, the project proposes a hospital model that combines functionality, architectural quality, and a focus on the individual—addressing the challenges of a modern and complex healthcare system, and reinforcing the role of the Misericordia Hospital as a key center for care and assistance in the province of Grosseto.
